Working on Fantastic 4 was a dream come true. I've been a fan of the comic practically from the beginning and have been a big fan of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby just as long. (More recently, I've been lucky enough to correspond with Stan -- and he's a great guy! And he's pretty terrific as Willy Lumpkin in the movie!)
So, it was an amazing honor to write this book, and I'm very proud with the way it turned out.
Again, there are things in the novel that didn't make it into the movie. In fact, I liked the movie even better than the screenplay. The screenplay wasn't as good as the one for Elektra (see my page about that book), but that movie didn't turn out quite as good as this one.
Just goes to show that sometimes you can't judge how a movie will turn out by what was written on the page.
Anyway, it was great fun working on this book, and great fun writing Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, the Thing, and all the rest of the cast.
I'm hoping they'll do another movie. And, if they do, I hope I get to do the adaptation!
